In the last few days, we’ve been finishing a major project that we’ve been working on for more than two years. It’s a huge expansion for Bott Radio Network at 88.5 FM in Lincoln and Omaha. The Federal Communications Commission has approved a tremendous power increase, and we’re almost ready to turn it on.

What it means to you is a much stronger signal and a significant increase in coverage. Broadcasting with ten times the power from the top of one of the tallest towers in the state, we’re excited that this new signal will expand our listening area to cover over 600,000 new people with the power of God’s word.

In the next few days, there may be brief interruptions to our service as we finalize the testing of our new transmitter and antenna installation. We’ll let you know when we’re up to full power after the required testing period. Please be sure to tell your friends about this exciting expansion for Christian radio here in Nebraska.

Friends, this is Rich Bott. You folks are the best. We have known for a long time that Bott Radio Network listeners are some of the finest people anywhere. We just had that reaffirmed at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Bott Radio Network was privileged to receive three wonderful awards, and it is all because of you.

First of all, Bott Radio Network was blessed to be named Network of the Year by Focus on the Family. Co-host John Fuller presented the award to our founder, my dad, Dick Bott. Also, the Family Research Council with its Washington Watch Weekly program, named Bott Radio Network in St. Louis as Station of the Year. Host Tony Perkins said, “We can always count on the good people at BRN to help us get our message out. Their listeners,” that’s you, “are consistently the most responsive and involved of all. It’s an honor to give this award to Bott Radio Network and their excellent team in St. Louis.”

And, finally, we received the Top Radio Network award from Sky Angel. They said BRN was selected for this award based on its large listenership and excellent audience response. We are all looking forward to our true reward when we get to heaven, but these awards by our friends in ministry are wonderful to receive along the way, and we want to share them with you because you make the Christian radio we hear each day possible. So, thank you for listening, and thank you for supporting your favorite Bible teaching ministry, and thank you for these wonderful awards. For more information, including photos, go to bottradionetwork.com.

Friends, this is Rich Bott. We’ve learned that the Barack Obama campaign has purchased advertising on Christian radio stations across the country, including some Bott Radio Network stations. We want you to know that the government requires radio stations to accept political advertising from all candidates for federal office. However, we can tell you the rest of the story. In his advertising now running on Christian radio, Barack Obama claims to represent family values, but that claim simply is not true.

At the Saddleback Forum, Senator Barack Obama told Pastor Rick Warren that to determine when a baby should get human rights is above his pay grade.ť He also promised Planned Parenthood that, if elected president, his first priority is to pass the Freedom of Choice Act which would overturn all statewide limitations on abortion. He voted four times against the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act. Barack Obama is ranked #1 as the most liberal member of the Senate, even more liberal than Bernie Sanders from Vermont, the Senate’s only self-proclaimed socialist. His running mate, Joe Biden, is ranked #3. Both Obama and Biden support so-called gay rights and oppose the California Marriage Amendment that would protect the institution of marriage as between a man and a woman. Obama’s position on family values is exactly wrong.

His opponent, John McCain, has a solid pro-life voting record and promises pro-life policies in his administration. Additionally, McCain and Palin support traditional marriage and endorse the California Marriage Amendment. That’s why pro-family leaders across the nation are opposing Obama and Biden and planning to vote for the McCain Palin ticket on November 4. The government requires us to air Obama’s paid political commercials, but we are not required to keep his money. We’ve decided to spread his wealth aroundť by donating the proceeds from his advertising to those pro-life organizations and crisis pregnancy centers which his policies would oppose. We thought you’d like to know.

Phyllis Schlafly’s Compelling, Pro-Family Voice Inspires Radio Audiences for 25 Years

ST. LOUIS, MO, September 10, 2008— One week before Senator John McCain announced Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate, pro-family leader Phyllis Schlafly was working behind the scenes with GOP leaders in St. Paul, Minnesota to insure the pro-life plank remained in the Republican platform. As President of Eagle Forum and Chairman of the Republican National Coalition for Life, Schlafly is an influential voice on issues and policies shaping the political, spiritual and moral landscape of America. In October, The Phyllis Schlafly Report, her daily radio broadcast, will celebrate 25 years on the air.

The Phyllis Schlafly Report has become three of the most important minutes in radio. Heard on more than 550 U.S. stations, the daily news and information feature delivers concise and clear coverage of the most relevant issues of our day. Recently, Schlafly has devoted programs to affirm the sanctity of life, resist the gay and feminist agendas, call for stronger borders, stand up to activist judges, protect homeschoolers’ rights, warn parents about the liberal bias of the NEA and most university professors, and expose the dangers of trade with China.

“We’ve never hesitated to address controversial issues over these 25 years on the air,” said Schlafly, who Ladies’ Home Journal named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century. “Our victories reflect the strength of the American people and the vision of our Founding Fathers.”

Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family recently expressed his appreciation of Schlafly’s enduring work. “You’ve been a voice for conservative, biblical values for more than four decades. Thanks for fighting the good fight through all these years. ”

In 1983, Dick Bott, Founder of the Bott Radio Network, encouraged Schlafly to launch a radio program after reading her biography by Carol Felsenthal, The Sweetheart of the Silent Majority. Bott appreciated Schlafly’s positive perspective. He said, “The book pointed out her values, beliefs and strong faith. I thought she ought to be telling her story in her own words. There is an unbelievable network of Christian stations, and the public could hear [Schlafly] for itself.”

Bott connected Schlafly with Domain Communications in Carol Stream, Illinois. After more than 6,500 broadcasts, the partnership continues to deliver fresh content every weekday. In a quarter century, The Phyllis Schlafly Report has repeated only one week of programs—when Phyllis’ husband, Fred, passed away in 1993.

When asked to weigh in on Senator McCain’s recent nomination of the strong female, pro-life Governor, Schlafly responded enthusiastically, “Sarah Palin is an outstanding governor, an exemplar of all that is good and true.”

More About Phyllis Schlafly
Schlafly first gained prominence in the conservative movement after the publication of her best-selling book in 1964, A Choice Not An Echo. In 1972, Schlafly launched her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum. In a ten-year battle, Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. She has debated on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. In 1990, Schlafly founded Republican National Coalition for Life.

She is also an accomplished lawyer and best-selling author. From 1985 to 1991, Schlafly was appointed by President Reagan to serve as a member of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. She has testified before more than 50 Congressional and State Legislative committees on constitutional, national defense, and family issues. She has written or edited 20 books on subjects as varied as family and feminism, nuclear strategy, education, child care, and phonics. Her most recent book is The Supremacists: The Tyranny of Judges and How to Stop It.

Schlafly’s monthly newsletter, also called The Phyllis Schlafly Report, is now in its 42nd year, and her syndicated column appears in 100 newspapers. In addition to her radio commentaries, she also hosts a radio talk show on education called Eagle Forum Live, heard weekly on 45 stations. Both radio broadcasts can be heard on the Internet.

For television, Schlafly has presented weekly commentaries on CNN and the CBS Morning News. Her classic debating style has earned her numerous appearances on almost every national television news and interview program.

Schlafly graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington University, and earned her J.D. at Washington University Law School and her Master’s in Political Science at Harvard University.

Friends this is Rich Bott with an editorial comment.

I grew up in Missouri. I went to high school in Independence, the hometown of Harry Truman. I still remember the high school field trip when we visited the Truman library. In it, they had a replica of the Oval Office during the Truman Administration. That’s when I saw it, right there on his desk, a sign that boldly stated, “The Buck Stops Here.” Harry Truman wasn’t flashy. Harry Truman was a leader. He knew how to accept responsibility and make tough decisions to win World War II, secure the peace and bring our troops home in victory and honor.

As a young kid in High School, that sign on Harry Truman’s desk made an impression on me. That’s why I was shocked with Senator Barrack Obama’s answer at the Saddleback forum. Pastor Rick Warren asked him, “At what point does a baby get human rights in your view?” Senator Barack Obama said “Answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.” I thought, “Above his Pay Grade?…He wants to be President of the United States of America… How can he try to ‘pass the buck’ on the most important moral question of our day?” He went on to state that he was “Pro-choice” on abortion. You know, even the phrase “Pro-Choice” is a disingenuous euphemism. I’m so glad President Abraham Lincoln was not “Pro-Choice” on slavery, and that he signed the Emancipation Proclamation ending slavery in America. He could have said, like Obama, that the question of slavery was above his “pay grade.” Great presidents don’t say things like that. They know the buck stops on their desk, and they do what’s right.

Senator John McCain didn’t have to think about it. His answer to the same question was striking by its contrast. Without hesitation he emphatically stated, “At the moment of conception. I have a 25 year pro-life record in the Congress, in the Senate, and as President of the United States I will be a pro-life President and this Presidency will have pro-life policies. That’s my commitment to you.” Wow! That’s a leader. That’s a President.

You know Missouri is the “Show Me” state. Don’t just tell me, Show Me…then I’ll know you mean it. Well, Senator John McCain showed me he really meant what he said at Saddleback when he selected Governor Sarah Palin to be his Vice Presidential running mate.

For me when you consider the most important issues of our day: Sanctity of Life, Sanctity of Marriage, Constitutionalist Judges, Parental Choice in Education, Strong National Defense and Energy Independence, with character and leadership that’s been tested by fire, the choice is clear.

It’s only a few weeks until the election in November. Don’t sit this one out. By all means register to vote, and vote, but do more than that. Get involved. Volunteer, sponsor a voter registration drive in your church or civic group. Spread the word and tell everyone you know. It’s that important. It could be the most important election in my lifetime, perhaps yours too. As a citizen this buck stops on your desk too. Don’t pass the buck. Get involved. Make a difference.

Thank you and God bless you!
