April 2008 / Bott Radio Network Partners With TeamMates Youth Mentoring Program April 24th
Bott Radio Network partnered with TeamMates in 2008 www.teammates.org/ to promote the youth mentoring outreach across Bott Radio Network in Nebraska. Numerous “One-Hour Walk” recognition events were held across Nebraska and Iowa in April 2008, hosted by local TeamMates chapters.
Founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne in 1991 to help provide support and encouragement to school-aged youth, TeamMates Adult mentors meet one hour a week with a young mentoring partner. These mentoring relationships bear abundant fruit in the lives of the young people involved in the program. Mentors are volunteers from throughout the community, dedicated to help youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. Mentors instill a strong sense of hope, purpose and vision in their TeamMate partner. TeamMates currently provides a mentor for over 3,000 youth across Nebraska and Iowa.
The annual “One-hour Walk” celebrates the difference that Mentoring makes in the lives of youth. Young adults involved in TeamMates graduating from high school are given special recognition awards at these annual “Walk” celebrations, which take place across Nebraska and Iowa. TeamMate’s mission is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential.
This event was the 5th annual “Walk” for the Omaha Chapter of TeamMates. It served as a city-wide “thank you” to mentors, mentees and community sponsors for their partnership. The focus of the event was to celebrate success stories of the young people in the program and to highlight the continuing need for mentors. Thirty-three graduates were recognized for their participation in the TeamMates mentoring program. Community Sponsors were also thanked for their support including Bott Radio Network.
