Something special is happening for children in Kansas City, Kansas. Kyle Petty, famed NASCAR driver, and his wife Pattie, are making the dreams of their late son Adam a reality by building the second Victory Junction Gang Camp at 8205 Riverview Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. Groundbreaking on the new camp took place Wednesday, May 13, with an expected opening date in 2011.
Called Victory Junction Midwest, the camp will provide children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment.
Over 300 people attended the groundbreaking, including the Mayor of Kansas City, Kansas, Joe Reardon, Dan and Donald “Bubba” Cathy, President and CEO and Senior Vice President of Chick-fil-A restaurants, respectively. Franklin Graham, President of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, attended as part of the 15th Annual Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America, which is a 10-day motorcycle ride through various cities nationwide. Riders log more than 3,000 miles annually.
Since the Ride began in 1995, more than 6,100 riders have logged 7.9 million cumulative motorcycle miles and donated more than $12 million to children’s charities. Franklin rode into Kansas City on his BMW motorcycle, and gave a solid presentation of the simplicity of the Gospel. Billy Graham’s “Hour of Decision” can be heard across Bott Radio Network. Others making the Ride included former NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner running back Herschel Walker, PGA Tour regular Davis Love III, and 2003 NASCAR Cup Champion & current Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth.
