May 2009 / Bott Radio Network Keeps Nebraska Pro-Life Listeners Informed with Public Policy Updates on Legislation Requiring an Ultrasound Before an Abortion

May 29, 2009 / Legislative Bill 675, known as “The Mother’s Right to See Her Unborn Child Ultrasound Bill” passed with a 40-5 vote in the Nebraska Unicameral and was signed into law by Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman. The bill was introduced by Senator Tony Fulton. The law requires an abortion facility to perform an ultrasound one hour prior to the abortion and display the ultrasound screen. Under the new Nebraska law, abortionists who use ultrasound are now required to position the screen in a way that the mother can easily see it and inform her that she can see the image of her unborn child. It also requires the ultrasound be performed by a licensed registered nurse. Nebraska is among fourteen other states that currently have or are in the process of enacting such legislation. According to Nebraska Right to Life, Nebraska’s bill is “one of the strongest ultrasound laws in the country.”
