On Thursday, January 5th, Bott Radio Network hosted a table at the Governor’s Prayer breakfast, the Missouri Governor’s 50-year annual tradition at the beginning of the legislative session. The prayer breakfast was a time to pause, seek the Lord, and ask Him to guide our leaders in their daily decisions. Governor Nixon spoke, encouraging Missouri’s leaders to come together during the session, and look to the Almighty for guidance along the way. The keynote speaker was Pastor Randy Gariss of College Heights Christian Church in Joplin. Pastor Gariss spoke about the significance of the truth that mankind is made in the image of God, reminding his listeners that everyone they pass bears the majesty of Almighty God. He described this majesty as a shadow and talked about the lonely distortion of the shadow who has lost its source, urging prayer breakfast attendees to seek God.
Pastor Gariss began and concluded by expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of support to tornado-ravaged Joplin. “You made very good neighbors,” he told the assembled leaders, referencing the Biblical story of the good Samaritan. “You looked a little like God.”
