On Thursday, May 1st, 2008 our city will embark on one of the most important acts of service to our city, our country, and our families. We will join an estimated 50,000 prayer gatherings across the nation. We will assemble at Bartle Hall, Exhibit Hall E,301 W. 13th Street in beautiful downtown Kansas City, Missouri. This year’s Honorary Chairman is Rich Bott, Executive Vice President of Bott Radio Network, with corporate headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas, a Kansas City suburb.
Psalm 28:7 affirms, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped.”
“Prayer: America’s Strength and Shield” is the theme for the National Day of Prayer. Now is the time for sincere, urgent, and united prayer for our city and our nation.
One of the most exciting features of the 2008 National Day of Prayer in Kansas City will be a Prayer Walk for Families and Children. From 4:00-8:30 pm families can walk through stations that will include public servants and other representatives that need our prayer. Here is a sampling of what we will include in the prayer walk:
Firemen in uniform with a Fire Truck
Policemen in uniform with a Police Car
Paramedics in uniform with an Ambulance
Military Servicemen in uniform
A Teacher / Educator
A Pastor or Church representative
Representatives from Media/Entertainment
And many others. . .
Through the prayer walk, families will have an opportunity to read a storyboard at each station with “Prayer Requests” listed for each representative. Children and families can meet a fireman or police officer and lift a prayer of protection and strength for each. Then, participants can proceed through the stations to a replica of the “Wailing Wall” in Israel. Here, prayer requests and praises can be placed on the wall for all to see. Prayer mentors will pray over the requests and will stand believing that God hears and answers these requests.
The main program will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Lynda Randle, special guest artist and Dove Award gospel singer. Area pastors and special guests will lead in worship, prayer, and repentance for our nation, city, and families.
Please plan to bring your church family to the event. We would love to see the parking lots filled with church busses and vans from across the metropolitan area!
